Former President Jerry John Rawlings has asked for an end to a partisan point-scoring over comments made by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Asantehene, making a historic appearance at the UN General Assembly Friday, sought to highlight the important role traditional authorities play in democratic countries.
He revealed he persuaded President Mahama to accept defeat in the 2016 presidential elections.
That comment became the main subject of discussion with the NPP casting the former President as undemocratic despite his rhetoric.
The NDC replied casting President Nana Akufo-Addo as a sore loser who despite Asantehene’s intervention, never conceded defeat after losing to Mahama in the 2012 presidential elections.
Former President Rawlings and founder of the NDC has taken to social media to call the partisan banter "unwarranted and unnecessary.”
“There is enough tension, let’s cool off” Jerry Rawlings exclaimed.
The Asantehene has made us proud with a highly educative address to the UN on the subject of PEACE. Comments by former President Mahama on an aspect of the address shouldn't elicit or provoke edict sounding threats.... pic.twitter.com/KLuUZ1J73i
