The Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye says government is considering rice importes who have their wares at the various boarders of the country to have them.
This, he noted would grant the opportunity to rice importers, whose goods were stuck at the country’s boarders after the Ministry's directive that all rice imported into the country should pass through the ports.
The Deputy Minister added that if the directive was not suspended, the will injure the businesses of the rice importers who have already invested their money into importing the goods, which are at the mercy of the weather at the ports.
He was commenting on JoyNews, Monday, in response to concerns raised by Majority chief whip in Parliament, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak that government’s directive to restrict importation of rice through only the Tema and Takoradi ports is anti-social and inhuman.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye further noted that the Minister of Trade and Industry had had interactions with the executive of the rice imports association after a petition was sent to the Ministry raising concerns on the directives.
