Brazilian striker Neymar suffered an ankle injury in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey 2-0 victory against Getafe on Thursday night, but should be back on the field soon.
The 21-year-old suffered the injury midway through the first half when he fell awkwardly while delivering a cross into the box.
Neymar was clearly in severe pain and unable to put weight on his ankle as he was assisted off the field by medical staff.
Barcelona confirmed after the game that the Brazilian had “sprained the peroneal tendon in his right ankle” and will undergo further tests on Friday.
After the game, however, Barca coach Gerardo Martino told reporters the injury may not seem as severe as initially thought.
“The situation didn't look good when you saw it happen and you thought he might be out for a while, but thank God it is not as serious as it appeared and he'll be back playing soon,” said the Argentinean.
“The doctors after the game have said it is not so bad and so if tests confirm it then it is not something serious.”
