Jubilee partners are seeking government's approval to flare gas from the country's biggest oil field.
The move has been influenced by fears that delays in completing the gas infrastructure project pose a major risk to their oil wells and the FPSO. Sources say the jubilee partners are worried that the FPSO and the current oil wells can no longer hold the gas being extracted from the oil fields.
Joy News gathered that if government approves their request it could affect Ghana's gas infrastructure getting the needed gas to power the plant. However, a rejection may affect the capacity of the operations on the jubilee field to produce more crude oil.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama says government is working hard to ensure that every Ghanaian benefit from the oil find.
Speaking on BBC's focus on Africa program, the President noted that Ghanaians must however understand it would take time before the full benefit to be realized.
