The Bank of Africa Group, Ghana is for the third time sponsoring two Ghanaian athletes to participate in the 6thedition of the Bank of Africa International Marathon which is scheduled to take place in Bamako, Mali on the 2nd of February 2014.
The sponsorship worth GHC 20,000.00 covers two male athletes, one coach and a journalist. The entire team leaves Ghana on January 31 and makes a return on February 3.
Speaking at the media briefing on Wednesday at the Bank’s headquarters Mr. Festus Kwofie (Financial Manager) said his outfit has always empathize with the people of Mali and will always support this annual event to develope budding marathoners in the country.
“So long as we are in this country we will continue to support the sport for Ghana to get the best of sportsmen for future tournaments. As a Bank rooted in Mali we are doing this to boast the people of Mali”, Mr. Festus Kwofie said.
“With time we’ll increase our budget for the event and we are very hopeful that the team we are sending will perform this time winning the ultimate”, Festus koufie added.
The two athletes, Rajj Alakple and Godwin Adukpo could not hide their joy and promised to reciprocate by bringing home the ultimate to mother Ghana this time, as a sign of appreciation to the Bank of Africa Ghana Group.
The men over the age of 18 years will run a distance over 42.125 km equivalent to the annual Milo marathon distance run every annually in Ghana.
The participating countries for this year’s event include; Ghana, Mali, Kenya, Senegal, Madagascar, Niger, Benin, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and Ivory Coast.
