Twenty entrepreneurs operating in domestic waste management, climate-smart agriculture and energy efficiency have successfully graduated from the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC).
This was after they successfully completed their green business incubation programme at the centre.
The group, which formed the fourth cohort, would be championing green initiatives in their areas of specialisation and contribute to the country’s effort towards climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The Executive Director of GCIC, Ms Ruka Sanusi, in a welcome statement, told the graduates that the journey to entrepreneurship begins in earnest with their graduation- but cautioned that the journey could be likened to a steeplechase marathon race with lots of obstacles. CEO of Zeepay, Andrew Takyi-Appiah, delivered the keynote address with a practical example of what he had to go through to see his business model succeed after several trying moments when he left the banking industry. He urged them to look beyond their failures since it will rather spur them on to surmount the challenges and plod the course without giving up. “You cannot succeed if you fear failure. It is the failure that will strengthen you to find creative means to provide solutions to problems...” Mr. Takyi-Appiah added. Founded in 2016, GCIC is a pioneering business incubator with a unique focus on SME ventures and entrepreneurs in the Green Economy. It is funded by a grant from the governments of Denmark and the Netherlands through the World Bank, and is managed by a consortium led by Ashesi University, including Ernst and Young, SNV Ghana and the United Nations University.
