An Accra High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kevin Ebo Taylor, a social media commentator.
The Court wants him to appear before it to explain why he should not be sentenced for contempt.
The warrant, issued by Justice Eric Kyei-Baffour, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, sitting as a High Court judge, is for a video circulated by Mr Ebo Taylor on Facebook.
The summons was issued before the cross-examination of Eugene Baffour-Bonnie, one of the accused persons and a former Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority (NCA), reports Graphiconline.
Mr Ebo Taylor, whose ‘With All Due Respect’ programme on the Loud Silence Radio and TV, has said that in one of his videos that Justice Kyei-Baffour was promoted to the Court of Appeal from the High Court because he was doing the bidding of the Nana Akufo-Addo government.
According to Mr Taylor Justice Kyei-Baffuor's decision in the trial of some five people accused of embezzling $4 million belonging to NCA is an example of the Judge doing the bidding of the President.
Justice Kyei-Baffour ruled that the said video sought to incite people against him and the court.
According to him, Mr Ebo Taylor’s action was scandalous and an affront to the country’s justice delivery system.
“As a judge of impeccable integrity and utmost honesty, I find it necessary to invoke the powers vested in me under the constitution to proceed and cite him for contempt.
“I issue a warrant for him to be produced before the court to show cause why he should not be committed to prison,” Justice Kyei-Baffour ruled.
The warrant has directed the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to find Mr Ebo Taylor who resides in the United States.
