The Ghana Book Trust (GBT) has donated over 500 assorted books to the University of Ghana Staff Village community library.
This is to promote reading culture among children and adults within the community.
In brief remarks, John Acquah, the Manager for GBT said he was elated to be in a position to donate books to assist in educating young ones to have a brighter future.
The University’s Registrar, Mercy Haizel-Ashia, who received the books on behalf of UG Staff Village Residents Association (STAVRA), expressed her immense gratitude to GBT for investing in the children’s education.
Sophia Dapaah Mantey, Chairperson, Staff Village Residents Association, in her remarks, thanked Ghana Book Trust for their generous gesture.
She added that patronage of the Library has doubled over the last few years and therefore there was a need for an extension of the Library.
Uriah Karikari, the volunteer Librarian, disclosed that with the donation of books on Computer Programming, children who patronize the library would be introduced to the field of programming.
He further indicated that the books donated will be of great help to students in developing their abilities in reading and comprehension.
Members present at the presentation were Charles Kofinti, Director, Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate; Rev. Elvis Owusu-Appiah, Vice-Chairperson, STAVRA; Desmond Tweneboanah, Secretary, STAVRA and Isaac Agyei, Organising Secretary, STAVRA.
