Ghana Cocoa Board, known simply as COCOBOD says the country would produce more cocoa beans this year than earlier projected.

According to its director of operations, Kwabena Asante Poku, the country is expecting to produce about 20,000 tones more.

COCOBOD had earlier projected 830,000 for the 2013/14 crop season.

Mr. Asante Poku tells the Reuters News Agency that the figures have been revised base on new field visits.

This should come as good news for government as the country might be earning more revenue from the exports of these beans.  

Recently, there were doubts about the country’s ability to meet the production target for this year.
