Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Engage Now Africa, has graduated 119 learners in its adult literacy project in Bibiani.

At a short ceremony on February 8, 2020, the graduating learners gave good reviews about the impact the adult literacy and livelihood skills development project has had on their lives.

Beneficiaries were drawn from Bibiani, Asawinso, Nzema Nkwanta and Nambro in the Bibiani Anwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly of the Western North Region.

The graduates had gone through about 18 months of functional literacy and vocational skills.

They were also trained in the manufacture of products like liquid soap, hair food, talcum powder, washing bleach and antiseptic.

The short but colourful ceremony was chaired by Mr Samuel Mensah, the Regional Non-Formal Education Division Director.

He urged the new graduates to put to good use the vocational skills they have acquired to generate income to help support their families.

He commended Engage Now Africa for the immense support towards reducing illiteracy in Ghana.

He noted that through Engage Now Africa’s collaborative efforts with the Government, the NGO has consistently reached out to many deprived communities in Ghana.

Mrs Cecilia Amankwah, the Country Director of Engage Now Africa also encouraged the new graduates to continue reading even after their graduation.

She urged them to make sure the knowledge acquired translates in their daily activities, especially their businesses.

The Assemblyman for the area, Mr Frank Nelson also expressed gratitude to Engage Now Africa for bringing the programme to his community.

Other dignitaries present at the event include Madam Stella Charles, CEO of Alma House, which sponsored the skills training for the learners and Emmanuel Biri, the Regional Non-Formal Education Division Director at Bamba.
