Three illegal miners – a woman and two men, were on Thursday trapped to death in an old mining pit at Nyinawusu, a community in the Atwima-Mponua District.
One other person, Adwoa Gyamaa, 22, was however, rescued and is now being treated of her wounds at the Nkawie Government Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Agatha Oforiwaa, 40, Yaw Antwi, 28, and Stephen Tawiah, 42.
They had entered the abandoned pit at about 0500 hours and started digging for the precious mineral when it caved in trapping them under tons of earth.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Albert Quansah, the District Commander, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at a mortuary at Toase for autopsy.
