Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Teranga Lions of Senegal settled for a 1-1 draw in their last of Group D match of the Africa Cup of Nations played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday.
By the drawn game, the two teams with two points apiece, failed to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Tunisia and Angola with four points each from their two previous matches move to the quarterfinal stages on five points each after settling for a barren draw in Tamale.
South Africa kicked-off brilliantly but it was Senegal who forced a second minute corner-kick but wasted it.
Two minutes later, Nasief Morris of South Africa shot off target as the Senegalese goalkeeper Sulemana Diawara was displaced.
Unrelenting Bafana Bafana side broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when hard-running Zuma Sibusiso pounced on a cross by unmarked Teko Modise to flash a shot past the outstretched gloves of goalkeeper Diawara.
South Africa dominated the game, confusing their opponents with short crisps and inch-perfect passes.
In the 34th minute, Senegalese defender, Moustapha Bayal attracted a yellow card from Ghanaian referee Alex Kotey for a foul on Modise Teko.
The roaring Teranga Lions went on the rampage, as the South Africans played on the defensive.
The Lions capitalized on this to level up in the 37th minute through Henri Camara, who exploited a defensive blunder to whisk the ball past goalkeeper Masilela Tsepo.
Senegal began the second half with much vigour, earning a corner-kick in the 48th minute, which was wasted.
Two minutes later, Senegal pulled out Papa Buba Diop and replaced him with Gueye Baba Car Mbaye.
The match was balanced from mid-way in the second half as both sides went all out to score.
Nash Morris of South Africa won the MTN man-of-the-match award, while the Samsung fair-play player went to Sibusiso Zuma also of South Africa.
