In spite of persistent education on the need for the people to avoid acts that could set off bushfires, several parts of Brong Ahafo continue to be ravaged by bushfires with considerable destruction of property and loss of lives.
Senya and Kronkrompe communities in Nkoranza North district have been plunged into darkness, following the destruction of wooden electricity poles by a devastating bushfire, as well as a large tract of farmland in the area.
Quantities of foodstuffs including yam, cassava, plantain, maize, groundnuts, cashew as well as two thatched houses have also been destroyed in the inferno.
Mr Eric Baffoe-Krapim, Assembly Member, told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that the cause of the bushfire had been traced to Dumanafo, a community in Kintampo South district, which shares boundary with the two affected communities.
He commended fire volunteers in the communities for controlling the fire and appealed to the people to be careful about how they handle naked fire in their homes during the dry season.
He also appealed to the Volta River Authority to help restore electricity to the two communities.
