The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu has urged financial institutions to make their operations more attractive to entice people to save with the banks saying it is the good works of the private sector, including the banks that can help the Ghanaian economy to grow.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu said this when the management of UniBank led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Kwabena Duffuor called on him at the Manhyia Palace. Their visit was to inform him about the opening of a branch of the bank in Kumasi.
The Asantehene said "whilst it is the duty of the government to lay down financial policies, it is financial institutions that can help implement them efficiently to enable the country to achieve high economic growth”.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu advised the delegation to respond to the Bank of Ghana's call on financial institutions to lower their interest rates on the loans they granted to their customers to make it possible for them to start new business.
He said there are still some farmers who continue to keep their monies in their homes and needs to be educated on saving at the banks.
Dr. Duffuor said UniBank is wholly owned a Ghanaian bank and its primary focus is to provide a comprehensive range of financial services to customers and Small and Medium enterprises.
