The University of Ghana Legon branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commended the government for taking the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) meant to reduce the plight of the poor and vulnerable in the Ghanaian society.
A statement signed by Mr. Alexander Frimpong, President of TESCON, said it was the continuation of the good work of the government as already demonstrated in its catalogue of good policies such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), National Youth Employment (NYEP), Capitation grant, school feeding programme.
“We have the conviction that this programme will help fight and reduce the canker of poverty among the extremely poor in our society”, it said.
The statement called on the people of Ghana to rally behind these policies dispassionately to make it a success and entreated the Ministry of Manpower to learn from the shortcomings of the implementation of the previous policies and deliver.
“We therefore pledge our unflinching support to LEAP and declare our readiness to help in whatever capacity to make it a success,” it said.
The statement expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Manpower Youth and Employment and urged them to continue with the good work.
