The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South in the Ashanti Region, credited with the popular slang, 'tweaaa' has been dismissed.
A statement signed the Executive Secretary to the President; Dr. Raymond Atuguba said “the president exercising the powers conferred on him by the Local Government Act section 204, has dismissed the DCE for Ahafo Ano South, Gabriel Barima with immediate effect.”
The statement said the Ashanti Regional Minister has been directed to act in his stead until a substantive DCE is appointed.
Gabriel Barima was forgiven after he apologised to the president for a conduct deemed to be unworthy of his office.
He angrily lunged at an unidentified hospital worker at a public function after the used the local slang 'tweaa'.
"Who said 'tweaa'"? he saked and subsequently stopped the event abruptly and walked off.
The conduct attracted widespread public opprobrium with calls for his dismissal.
But the president forgave him when he apologised for the conduct.
When all seemed quiet and the slang became a national pastime, Mr. Barima took liberties, granting radio interviews and saying the slang could be used to boost local tourism.
He said many students and individuals are keen to see "the DCE who said 'tweaa'".
According to him, Ghanaians should embark on a pilgrimage to Ahafo Ano South to see him.
He said the slang could also be used to "defuse tension."
"So now wherever you go and people are saying all sorts of things, if you say 'tweaa', their attention will be shifted to the 'tweaa' and then you become free," he said.
Probably unhappy with the latest comments, President Mahama relieved him of his post as DCE.
