Five-year-old kindergarten pupil of Sandabi International School, Wumpini Mubarik, on Friday got drowned in a swimming pool at Discovery Hotel in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital.
The hotel belongs to beleaguered Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Goodwill International, Philip Akpeena Assibit.
Assibit is facing trial at the court of law for the alleged role he played in the Ghana Youth Entrepreneurial and Employment Agency (GYEEDA) financial rot.
The deceased was found dead at the adult section of the pool by security men on duty Saturday morning and reported the matter to the police, who rushed to the scene and conveyed the body to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Little Mubarik, who stayed with his parents behind the hotel, allegedly went to the pool with a friend to swim but mistakenly used the adult section at the blind side of the pool guards, and got drowned.
His parents mounted a search for him in the evening when it was time for him to bath but none of his colleagues claimed to have known his whereabouts until the following morning when he was reported dead in the pool, as his body was floating.
Managers of the hotel, which is not fully functional, insisted they were not aware the kids were in the pool until the following morning when one of the security men spotted his floating lifeless body on the water.
The body has since been buried in accordance with Islamic custom, while the police are investigating the matter to establish the actual cause of death.
