A development consultant, Mr. Kwabena Donkor, has challenged government to streamline the public sector to keep abreast with current trends and changes in service delivery.
He said institutions in the public sector have been consistent underperformers which need a good brush of modern technology to achieve greater results.
Speaking on Joy Fm’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, Mr. Donkor, advocated what he called “change management” instead of the generic public sector reform which has been fraught with inefficiencies.
He suggested a Secretariat in the machinery of government, preferably at the Office of the President to handle this change management in the public sector to give it a better executive drive.
CPP Presidential candidate, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, who is currently embarking on a house-to-house campaign towards the December elections, said a dedicated charter equipped with the relevant technological know-how does it.
Touching on the 17million-dollar pledge by the US President, George Bush in the eradication of malaria in the country, Dr Nduom hailed the gesture but said Ghanaians themselves must fight the disease harder so there is no over-reliance on external support.
Responding the comments, Information Minister, Ms Oboshie Sai-Cofie, said even though structures dedicated to the public sector reform programme are important, there is also need for relevant methodology.
She pledged government’s commitment to the programme but also called for a stronger private sector contribution.
