Police have arrested the contractor working on the six-storey hotel building that collapsed Thursday morning at Nii Boi town killing one person and injuring another.
Moses Abbey was picked up late Thursday afternoon by the police for supervising the construction of the hotel which tumbled down.
The police are on a hunt for the owner of the hotel, SK Omare, who is reported to be avoiding phone calls.
The two, according to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive Alfred Vanderpuye have consistently refused to respect several warnings to them to stop work on building.
Deputy Works and Housing Minister Samson Ahi told Joy News' Kwakye Afre-Nuamah "certainly he [Omare] will be found. With the support of the security agencies he will be found."
He said he "does not want to be judgmental now" but added the ministry will be "setting up a technical committee" to investigate the matter.
Afreh Nuamah reports that 18 people have been displaced after the six-story hotel collapsed on their buildings close to the hotel.
Fortunately, there was no casualty except the destruction of their homes.
Some of the affected persons told Afreh-Nuamah they now have no place to lay their heads.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented the affected persons with relief items.
Meanwhile, rescue efforts are still ongoing eventhough hopes of finding any survivors appear to be fading.
Assistant Divisional officer of the Fire Service Joseph Mensah, who is leading the rescue efforts told Joy News the rescuers are not giving up until they reach the base of the collapsed building.
