Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has implored stakeholders in golf to institute proactive programmes and projects to help attract the youth to the sport.
He said it was quite unfortunate that, the youth, for strange reasons, had a misconception that the sport was the preserve of the aged and said this was a disincentive to its development.
Golf, he said, had grown steadily over the years and had the potential to win laurels for the nation at international competitions if properly developed and that it behoved management of the various golf clubs in the country to liaise with corporate bodies in organizing regular golf clinics for the youth to break the back of their fears about the sport whiles tapping their potentials to benefit the nation.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu made the call when the Board of Trustees of the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.
The Asantehene, who is a member of the club, indicated that the Royal Golf Club has come of age and therefore entreated the Governing Council to step up efforts to upgrade facilities at the Club to attract investors and also needed sponsorship for their competitions and other programmes.
He said they should endeavour to build hotels, club houses and other recreational facilities to enhance their growth and image.
Dr. Kwasi Appiah, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Club, commended the Asantehene for his enthusiasm and continuous support for the Club and said the Governing Council was committed to developing facilities at the Club.
