Maulvi Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary-in-charge of the Ahmaddiya Muslim Mission in Ghana, has appealed to political party leaders and party supporters to conduct their electioneering campaign based on issues and devoid of insults.
He said the country had been acknowledged internationally as "a haven of peace" and urged politicians to uphold this good image and carry out their campaign devoid of insults, character assassination and attack on personalities.
Maulvi Adam said this when he paid a courtesy call on Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister, in Tamale on Monday.
He briefed the minister on the centenary anniversary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission worldwide and to welcome 300 members of the Majils Khuddamul Ahmadiyya (Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organisation) who rode on bicycles from Burkina Faso to attend a convention at the Mission's farm at Pomadze in the Central Region.
Maulvi Adam commended the setting up of the National Peace Council (NPC) and expressed the hope that it would help enhance peace by promptly mediating in conflict situations.
He called for the replication of the NPC in the regions and districts.
Maulvi Adam said the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission and religious organisations in the country would continue to pray for peace and tranquility of the nation particularly in this election year.
Alhaji Idris commended the Maulvi Adam for his intercessory prayers for peace over the years and commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission for its interventions in education, health and agriculture.
