Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) will acquire a speedboat to patrol the Volta Lake to combat the high incidence of smuggling. The areas to be patrolled include Kpando-Tokor, Gemeni and Tapa Abotoase.
Fredua Agyeman-Boakye, the Ho Sector Commander of CEPS said this at a get-together for stations forming the northern half of the Ho Collection at Hohoe at the weekend.
The stations are Tinjase, Wli-Agorviefe, Menusu and Leklebi-Dafor.
He said evidence has shown that colossal revenues were lost to the state from the activities of smugglers on the lake.
Mr Agyeman-Boakye commended the four stations for their vigilance that translated into several interceptions including large quantities of African prints at Kodi-Benum and Poase Cement in the Kadjebi District.
Edmund Quaye, Chief Collector at the Menusu Station, appealed for the supply of solar communication gadgets to facilitate effective policing of the eastern frontier.
The Ho Collection is to collect a total of 104.7 billion cedis out of the national target of 16.6 trillion cedis, this year.
Certificates were presented to servicemen who distinguished themselves in 2006.
