McDan Shipping Company in collaboration with Rush Energy Drink and Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) comes up with the maiden edition of seniors and juniors open, which is intended to revive the sport that once produced champions like Frank Ofori, Kojo Attiso and others who marketed brand Ghana beyond the shores of this country.

The tournament which slated for April 22 to 26 at the Accra Stadium Tennis Court will see winners of the men’s singles and women’s singles categories pocket GHC 1,000 and a trophy each.

The worrying trend of lack of competition on the local tennis calendar is now in the past as the McDan Open will now hunt for new talents for the Discipline as this is the  main focus of the CEO of Mc Dan Group of companies Daniel McKorley.

. “Tennis is just like any other sport in the country but also has the strength of uniting people of different political parties, tribes’ age and social status thus my passion for it. We want to use the McDan Open Tennis Tournaments to restore Ghana’s place in the Davis Cup Euro Africa Zone 2.

“McDan added that players at the U-18 and above competition will not only be used as a G.T.F. Ranking Tournament but would also become an ITF ranking tournament next year when Ghana is readmitted to the international body”.

The first four players in the Open competition would be offered the rare opportunity for a training program in Spain. In December, the junior players will take their turn as in the McDan Open Juniors Tournament.

Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah who launched the event lauded the efforts of the headline sponsor, McDan Shipping for supporting the sport saying, “Football is doing well because of sponsorship, and the fact that McDan doled out $10,000 to rescue GTF for its subscription at the ITF shows their commitment to the development of sports.”
