Engineers and Planners says its US-flagged aircraft flouted no international aviation regulation by entering Iranian airspace.
A statement issued and signed by Adi Ayitevie, Executive Director of E&P confirmed the Bombardier jet aircraft was used to transport a group of Ghanaian business executives to Iran "and the group has since returned to Ghana".
According to the statement: "The said trip was made in conformity with all international aviation laws."
News went viral last Friday about the American plane owned by a small community bank in Utah which was mysteriously parked at Tehran’s airport, showing that it had been leased by Engineers and Planners (E&P), a Ghanaian mining company owned by Ibrahim Mahama, brother of president John Mahama.
According to the New York Times' publication, "former federal officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they believed that the plane has been used to transport President Mahama before. They based that conjecture partly on the plane’s known itineraries from photos posted online.
"One image captured the plane flying to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where President Mahama spoke in September. The Ghanaian president was also in London last October when the aircraft was spotted leaving there for Accra".
But E&P categorically denies the claim that president Mahama ever used that aircraft for any official travels outside the country.
"We wish to also state the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, has never been transported by the said aircraft,” the statement said.
