The staff and teachers of the St. Paul Lutheran School at Kanda and other surrounding cluster of schools, have condemned with utmost disgust, the spate of reckless driving on the GBC-Kanda section of the ring road.
An act they say, has resulted in the killing of scores of road users around the area especially, school children.
Mr. Charles Nii Ahenle Quarcoo, the Chief Executive of the Evangelical Lutehran Church School in an interview with Myjoyonline.com, feared for the lives of the thousands of pupils who school around the area.
Even staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) have not been spared by the careless drivers, one of whom recently knocked and killed a female intern attached to the broadcasting house, in her attempt to use the pedestrian crossing to get to the other side of the road.
According to Nii Quarcoo, several letters to city authorities to help find a solution to the problem on that road have yielded no results.
“We have written to the Nima police, Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Highway Authority and others but we have had no response and the killing of our children is unceasingly increasing by the day,” he lamented.
He therefore called on the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, to permanently place their men at the zebra-crossing at GBC to help save the lives of the children.
He further suggested traffic lights be placed there rather than ramble strips, to curb the constant killings by speeding drivers.
“I will discourage the use of speed ramps these days because drivers run or jump over them,” he maintained.
