One person was shot and killed, Wednesday night in a small community at Sakogu in the East Mamprusi district of the Northern region.
The cause of the shooting is not immediately known.
The deceased, a 40 year old farmer was allegedly shot on his return from a forest near the village where he and other residents had fled, following clashes between the Mamprusis and Bimobas there.
The conflict has claimed scores of lives with several properties destroyed. A curfew was imposed on the area as part of measures to curtail the violence.
A brother of the deceased who wants to remain anonymous told Joy News the people had decided to return to the forest because their safety could not be guaranteed.
According to him, for several days they slept in the forest in order to escape brutalities in the Mamprusi-Bimoba conflict but they only returned to their homes after the Minister and Member of Parliament of the area assured them of their safety.
Unfortunately after they returned, his brother was killed in the night by some unidentified persons, he stated.
Tamale Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said Yakubu Laari was dragged several meters away from his home and killed.
He said the body has been sent to the morgue awaiting autopsy.
ASP Tetteh said he cannot immediately tell if yesterday's killing is linked to the Mamprusi-Bimoba conflict.
