A member of the Council of State, Nana Kodua Kesse, is advocating the abolishment of extending job contracts to people who have attained their retirement age.

According to him the high level of graduate unemployed in the country makes the current practice problematic.

''The number of people produced by the universities is 10 times the number of jobs available. It is for this reason that anyone who attains the stipulated retirement age of 60 should not be given any extension''.

Nana Kodua Kesse, who is also the chief of  Koforidua-Oyoko and the Adontenehene of the New Juaben traditional area said this when the new regional Minister, Julius Debrah, called on him at his palace.

Mr Debrah was accompanied by his deputy, Mavis Ama Frimpong and the regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) party executives.

The visit was to introduce himself to the chief as the minister responsible for the region.

Nana Kodua Kesses noted that the job market is chocked to the extent that the younger generation can only get easy access to work when pensioners are not asked to work on contract.

He also expressed concern about the nature of the road network in the region especially those in Akyem area and charged the minister to fix them.

 He was worried that most people are heckling the government on the current state of the economy and some of its programmes and policies because according to him the government has failed to propagate its own programmes.

He however charged the minister to encourage his Municipal and District Chief Executives to actively involve themselves in public education in getting the information right down to the people.

On his part, the Regional Minister, Mr. Julius Debrah acknowledged the crucial roles of traditional leaders in shaping the society and its development.

He expressed optimism in working closely with them to realize the vision of the government.
