A 38-year-old driver whose alleged negligence led to the horrific accident, which claimed the lives of two Deputy Women Organisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on the Techiman-Kintampo Highway at the weekend, was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody for one week, by a Techiman Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Michael Ntumy.
The plea of Abdul Salaam, who was driving the Yutong bus which collided head-on with the Mahindra vehicle on which the deceased and two others were traveling, was not taken, and he would re-appear on Tuesday, May 6.
The deceased were Hajia Adiza Sali, Deputy Greater-Accra Regional Women's Organiser, and Agnes Tia, Deputy Volta Regional Women Organiser.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Andrews Okonengye, Techiman Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Techiman that the accident occurred around 6:30pm on that fateful day.
He explained that the accused person decided to overtake a vehicle near a hill at Nipahiamoa, a community along the highway, but lost control and his vehicle collided with the Mahindra vehicle, thus seriously injuring two other occupants.
ASP Okonengye said all the nine passengers in the Yutong bus escaped unhurt, except one Mahmud Abubakar, a-31-year-old nurse at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, who sustained some injuries.
