Dr. Owusu Achaw Duah, Member of Parliament for Offinso South, has entreated Ghanaians to take health issues seriously since the nation’s sustainable development depended on a healthy citizenry.
He said they should exercise their bodies and also eat balanced diets regularly whilst avoiding reckless lifestyles such as alcoholism, substance abuse and sexual promiscuity which could endanger their lives.
Dr Duah made the call when speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday.
He pointed out that as part of efforts to improve upon the health of residents of Offinso, he would as from next month organise a free health screening exercise for the residents.
He said the first phase of the exercise would be conducted on June 3 and that members of the Offinso Traditional Council as well as the public would be screened for hypertension, diabetes, malaria and eye-related diseases.
Dr Duah, a Medical Consultant, noted that the exercise would be conducted by a 16-man medical team of Charity Beyond Borders, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the United States of America (USA).
He said the medical team would also embark on teaching on nursing, hospital management and administration as well as laboratory technology at the Martin Luther King Memorial Hospital in Accra.
He appealed to citizens of Offinso to take advantage of the exercise and come in their numbers to be screened.
