The youth have been urged to be law abiding and to take their education seriously to enable them contribute their quota to national development as future leaders of the country.
This was stated by Dr Francis Nii Annan Sowah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the La-Dadekotopon constituency, at the inauguration of 20 youth clubs in the Adobetor area at La in Accra.
Dr Sowah noted that only a disciplined youth could be law abiding to be an agent of change and respect others’ views and opinions irrespective of their ethnic background, religion or political persuasion.
He said as agents of change they could bring about an enduring peace and stability, which were ingredients for an accelerated development of the nation.
The parliamentary candidate stated that if youth welfare and development programmes were not well structured the youth could not play their role as agents of change, a situation, he said, could lead to chaos and conflict as witnessed in other countries.
Dr Sowah, who is a legal practitioner charged the youth not to allow themselves, to be used as “tools for destruction” but to channel their exuberance into productive ventures to prove that they were capable of taking over as future leaders.
“Anything short of this will be a big disappointment for Mother Ghana, your parents and the whole community”, he said.
The parliamentary candidate promised that, if he given the mandate to become the Member of Parliament in the December Elections he would bring tremendous transformation to La with special emphasis on youth development and training.
He said programmes in Information Communication Technology (ICT), vocational and agricultural training would be initiated for the youth who would also be supported with soft loans after their various courses to establish their own businesses to reduce the rate of unemployment in the area.
Mr. Addoquaye Annan, General Overseer of the clubs, thanked Dr Sowah for his advice and called on the youth in the area to join the clubs to get involved in community and their personal development and welfare.
On behalf of the clubs, he received various items including sporting equipment and beverages for a “keep-fit walk” to launch their activities on 1st July, Republic Day holiday.
