The Western Regional branch of the Traditional Medicine Manufacturers Union of Ghana (TRAMMUG) has been inaugurated with a call on the members to manufacture genuine herbal medicine that meet the requirements of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB), the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) and scientific research institutions.
Gordan Nana Adjei, National President of the Union who inaugurated the branch said members should strive to satisfy the requirements of FDB, GSB and scientific research organizations to enable them export their products.
Mr. Adjei expressed regret that traditional medicine manufacturers are not able to promote and sell their products outside the country.
He appealed to members to disabuse their minds that the FDB, GSB and scientific research institutions are out to discredit herbal medicine.
"You should co-operate with these organizations to improve the quality and efficacy of herbal preparations."
Mr. Adjei said the union will organize workshops and training programmes for traditional medicine manufacturers including those in the rural areas to improve upon their production methods
Kingsley Duah, first national vice president of the union said many people are not patronizing herbal medicine because of the way they are prepared.
