The 2013 Best Cocoa Farmer, Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei was over the weekend elected president of the World Cocoa Farmers Organization (WCFO).
Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei becomes the first president of the Organisation which has its headquarters in Italy.
World Cocoa Farmers Organization (WCFO) draws its membership from cocoa farmers around the world with the purpose of breaking the monopoly of price determination of their produce by manufacturers and processors.
Even though cocoa is one of the major commodities that generates foreign exchange for Ghana and countries that grow the commodity, most farmers remain poor while others die in abject poverty.
The situation has been so mainly because, the farmers do not have the right to determine the price of their own produce.
Currently, the price of cocoa is determined by manufactures, processors and consumers to the detriment of the average cocoa farmer.
In some parts of the world, governments are reluctant to increase the price of cocoa even when the price is increased on the world market.
In view of this, cocoa farmers across the world have come together to have a mouthpiece to champion the course of cocoa farmers across the world.
The farmers believe Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei is the best person to advocate their concerns and make the farmers have a better living condition.
He is currently the General Overseer of Savior Church of Ghana at Osiem and doubles as a member of Council of State in Ghana.
The Netherland government also awarded Opanyin Abraham with a citation for his contribution in the Cocoa market.
