A 20-member delegation from Togo led by Mr Cornelius Aidam, Minister for Communication, Culture and Formation Civic, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Information and National Orientation, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
The visit was to acquaint the visitors with developments in Ghana, particularly in the areas of the People’s Assembly concept, Meet-the-Press series, media operations as well as the Presidential Special Initiatives.
A statement from the ministry quoted Mr Asamoah Boateng as saying “Democracy is not only about representing people in Parliament but also meeting the people on one-on-one basis to ascertain their problems as well as familiarising with them at their local levels.”
The Minister said the People’s Assembly concept was one of the laudable measures introduced by the government on assumption of office in 2001 to provide a platform for the government to interact with the people from all walks of life.
“It is unique because it cannot be found anywhere in the world.”
The Deputy Minister for Information and National Orientation, Mr Frank Agyekum, said the constitution barred any form of censorship on the media to make them more vibrant.
Mr Aidam called for collaboration among African countries that export cocoa and timber to ensure processing of the products to attract better prices on the world market.
He expressed his government’s gratitude to Ghana especially to the Ghana Armed Forces for using their helicopters to evacuate flood victims in Togo when the country was hit by flood recently.
