The PNC Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Mr. John Ndebugre has defended his decision to contest the seat as an independent candidate.
He said the Constitution of the party did not bar him from contesting as an independent candidate.
Mr. Ndebugre has had difficulties with his party, the People’s National Convention.
The party organised a National Delegates Congress at the Upper East Regional Capital, Bolgatanga to elect a flag-bearer and other national officers.
Mr Ndebugre who did not attend the congress described it as a kangaroo congress which lacked legal locus.
He has therefore refused to recognise and abide by the decisions that were taken at that congress.
The Zebilla MP maintains he is still the First National Vice Chairman of the PNC.
He said some party elders advised that since the flag-bearer and his cronies have “messed up the party”, he should stay in Parliament as an Independent Member and help reorganise the PNC.
But the National Chairman of the PNC Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan told Joy News that action will be taken against Mr. Ndebugre if he notifies the party of his decision to go independent.
He stressed the Zebilla MP is no longer an executive member of the party.
According to him, the congress that has been rubbished by Ndebugre was legitimate.
“I honestly don’t know what he is talking about”, he noted.
