Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs) have begun discharging fuel to suppress the acute fuel shortage that has hit Accra and other parts of the country.
The release of the petroleum products follows the payment of more than 400 million cedis owed the BDCs by government.
The Bulk Distribution Companies had suspended their services, saying government owes them to the tune of GH₵1.5 billion, although the figure has been disputed by the Finance Ministry.
Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distribution Companies, Senyo Hosi, told Joy News with the release of monies by government, the severe fuel shortage will normalise by Wednesday July 2, 2014.
He said already some BDCs in Tema and its environs have begun distributing the product, adding "on Monday we are expecting more BDCs to have some financial releases from the banks and they too will commence distribution".
He said the release of petroleum products will focus on Accra because the nation's capital has been hardest hit with the shortages.
Adom FM's correspondent in Tema, Bella Aveh, confirmed the distribution of fuel at some stations, Saturday.
Her Editor, Afia Pokua said Tema and its environs are still battling with the fuel shortage.

She said more than 1,000 consumers had queued at a filling station when news broke that the BDCs had begun discharging the fuel.
For four days now, petrol shortage has hit Accra and many parts of the country.
The fuel shortage has resulted in a mad rush for petrol in the few stations with some of the product in Accra.
