Some 6,400 former employees of the  Better Ghana Health Services are threatening to go on demonstration if government does not settle their five months allowance arrears.

Speaking to Joy News’ Bernard Henaku, a former Health Promotion Officer, Evans Appiah, revealed that government paid only three months despite promising to honour all eight months arrears.

Joy News could not independently confirm this promise.

 “When we were paid it was three months which came out of the eight months”, he lamented.

The former employees say they would be using the formal laid down procedures in venting their grievances in appealing to government  to heed to their need or embark on the demonstration.

 “We would serve letters from the judiciary to the appropriate offices in the regional [level] to the national before we demonstrate", he added.

They are calling on government to release their allowances owed them to ease their financial burden.

“Look at the youth, we are not working. Government should put themselves in our shoes and see how we are feeling,”an employee, Esther, complained.

“What we need is our money, we really need our money”,she charged.

The employees has also revealed that if the demonstration becomes ineffective, they would take legal action to retrieve their allowances.

It is unclear when these employees allowances are going to be released to them.

Meanwhile GYEEDA has said the Health Promotion Officers have nothing to do the GYEEDA.

In a press statement , the agency said.

"Our attention has been drawn to a news item making Media rounds about the intention of 6400 Health Promotion Officers under the Better Ghana Management Services Limited to embark on a strike due to non-payment of five (5) months salary arrears.

The Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) wishes to place on record that these are not GYEEDA Program beneficiaries as is being erroneously asserted.

Kindly be informed that the Health Promotion officers Programme is an arrangement between the Ministry of Health and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited and is not to be confused with GYEEDA’s Health Extension Workers Module whose Beneficiaries have exited and have been paid all their entitlements.

GYEEDA is not and has never been a party to the Health Promotion Officers Programme."
