Mesut Ozil may be criticised for not seemingly caring much at times but the Germany star has to be praised for his latest gesture – after reportedly donating his £240,000 World Cup winnings to projects in Brazil.
The Germany players were each promised the hefty sum ahead of the tournament if they won the competition in Brazil, which they achieved thanks to Mario Gotze’s extra-time goal against Argentina at the Maracana last week.
And Ozil has now decided to donate his bonus for a good cause after the Arsenal star’s representative told AP that the 25-year-old had given his money to ‘projects in Brazil.’
Reports had earlier claimed that the midfielder – who is of Turkish descent and a practising Muslim – had donated the money to the children of Gaza, but, his representative has since denied the story.
