Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Kpando Heart of Lions drew 1-1 in their Onetouch Premier League at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
Osei Kuffuor powerfully nodded home a corner kick sent in by Douglas Nkrumah with Lions keeper Richard Ahorlu stranded for the first goal of the match in the 36th minute for Kotoko's first goal.
Obeng Darko was in apposition to have made it two for Kotoko but the striker narrowly missed the posts from a Kuffour's flip of the ball.
Lions gradually warmed into the game as they pinned Kotoko to their own half but failed to utilize four corner kicks that came their way within a couple of minutes.
Kotoko's goalkeeper Eric Nii Baah pulled a magnificent save to stop a Sadat Bukari's goal bound shot in the 44th minute.
As the game progressed with Kotoko still on top with their narrow lead, the home side managed to fetch the equalizer in the 74th minute through Eric Bekoe after Yusif Issah set him up to plunge the ball into the left corner of the net to beat ever-busy Nii Baah to set the stadium agog.
Kotoko's Ofosu Appiah was shown the red card in the 79th minute for challenging the referee.
The atmosphere before the well-attended match was tensed with reports of the arrest of people allegedly attempting to bribe players of Lions, who are considered to be a bogey club of Kotoko.
