The Director General in-charge of Technical, Ghana Police Service, Mr. Kofi Duku Arthur has said that the Police Administration has no place for policemen and women whose conduct and general performance draw the name of the service into disrepute.“Those who commit naked extortion from drivers, the travelling public and those engage in fraudulent activities, chieftaincy matters and other acts contrary to the service would not be spared”.Mr. Arthur said this at the passing out ceremony of 115 police recruits after six months training at the Central Regional Police Training School in Winneba on Friday.The recruits made up of 104 men and 11 women were trained in topics including Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Criminal investigation, Law of Evidence, Professional Police duties, Domestic Violence as well as Social Psychology.Mr. Arthur, who was the reviewing officer said the ample opportunity were given to the recruits to study core subjects related to their profession as well as subjects designed to keep them abreast with ongoing events in the world.He told them that, they would be deployed to the various regions of the country for practical attachments and that the first eighteen months of their field work will constitute their probation period.Mr. Arthur told the recruits that their performance will be assessed by the respective commanders you will be assigned during this period, he said.“You are therefore expected to put into practice, what you learnt during the six months training and work hard to merit confirmation”.Mr. Arthur urged the recruits to be extra careful in handling and use of weapons, adding, “unjustifiable use of fire arms will lead you into serious problems and you could be prosecuted”.He told the recruits that they are passing out at a very crucial period when Ghanaians prepared to go to the polls for Presidential and Parliamentary elections.The Police Administration entreats every officer of the Service to approach the election duties with a sense of vision, zeal, impartiality loyalty and commitment which were the prerequisites for successful elections, he said.Mr. Arthur said the citizenry looks up to the police for their safety and security before, during and after the elections, and “we dare not fail our dear nation”.Twenty-two-year old Police Woman Recruit Patricia Kumi, from Dormaa Ahenkro, was adjudged overall best recruit and was awarded baton of honour and a citation.General Recruit Joseph Oppong received the best drilling award, Police Woman Esther Sarfo, received best conduct award, General police Recruit Adomako Kusi had the best academic award while Police woman Bernice Akyaa Asante was awarded with the Officer Commanding the school award.Among those present were the Municipal Chief for Effutu, Mr. Robert Andrew Ghunney, Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, and Commanding Officers from some Police Training Schools in the country.Source: GNA
