Mothers of three players of Ghana’s Black Stars have donated 300 treated mosquito nets to pregnant women at Agogo in the Ashanti Region.
Madam Aba Gyanode, mother of midfielder Michael Essien, Madam Mary Donkoh, mother of central defender John Mensah, and Madam Juliana Diaba, mother of defender John Paintsil made the joint donation.The nets valued at 3000 Ghana Cedis, was donated through the ‘Add Your Voice Now’, a non-governmental organization (NGO) which is championing the cause of malaria eradication in the country.Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO said the objective of the donation is to ensure children are protected from mosquito bites so that “we would have more healthy children out of whom there would be more Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu’s in the area”.He said malaria attacks poses a great danger to the health of the people and that was why Government’s are spending huge moneys to fight the disease, and it is for this reason that it is essential for everyone to contribute his or her quota towards making the objective of malaria eradication a reality.Mr Osei Bonsu said it was necessary that all would help to stop the breeding of mosquitoes so that malaria would not have breeding grounds to cause havoc and affect the survival of children while the huge sums of money spent on the treatment of the disease can be channelled into other developmental projects.Madam Gyanode advised especially pregnant women to use the nets in the interest of their children so that the preventives measures are achieved to have healthy children.Both Madam Donkoh and Madam Diaba also called on the beneficiaries to ensure that they treasure the lives of the babies so that they football players and sports men and women in the future for the country.Source: GNA
