Ghanaian keeper Ibrahim Dossey, who has been in coma for the past three months, has died in a hospital in Romania.
Dossey, who played for Ghana at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, fell into a coma on 13 September after he was involved in a serious car accident and passed away on Tuesday, a family friend told www.ghanasoccernet.com.
He was 36.
The 2002 best goalkeeper in the Romanian Divizia A, fell into coma after the car he was driving went into a head-on collision with another vehicle.
He was rushed to the University Emergency Hospital in Bucharest where he was under constant supervision before he passed away.
Ghana international William Amamoo had donated US$10,000 for his compatriot to be treated in Holland but the campaign to raise the remaining US$15,000 needed for better treatment.
Urgent arrangements are being made by the family of Dossey to fly the body to Accra for burial in accordance to Islamic tradition.
The 36-year-old agreed a two year contract extension with FCM Targoviste last Tuesday.
He was a member of Ghana's historic Olympics team that won bronze at the Barcelona 1992 Games and has been playing in Romania since 2001.
