The Greater Accra Regional Minister Sheik IC Quaye has decried the use of live ammunitions to disperse violent demonstrations by disgruntled NPP supporters. The supporters who on Wednesday besieged the corridors of the Electoral Commission flaunted machetes and clubs, and threatened mayhem if results of the runoff in the Volta Region were not audited. Riot police who were on hand to calm tempers were allegedly high-handed in dealing with the supporters. Schick I.C Quaye insists the actions by the police could have been disastrous if he had not intervened. He chided the police for their high handedness in dealing with the demonstrators. “The demonstrators were wild, indeed wild. They said they were prepared to die if the police will kill them, they were ready to die,” IC Quaye told Joy News on Thursday. “Life bullets were fired on human beings for demonstrating, why? “I have the pellets with me. “The NDC went there demonstrating the whole day, nothing happened to them. Why should it happen on NPP supporters?” Sheik I.C Quaye queried. Supporters of the NDC on Tuesday staged similar demonstration, demanding the EC to immediately declare Prof. Evans Atta Mills as president. I.C Quaye who is also the head of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council is scheduled to meet with the security personnel to chart a new course for peace in the region.
