Municipal chief executive of La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly Rita Odoley Sowah says she is hopeful by 2016 all households within her municipality will have toilet facilities to put a stop to open defecation.
She expressed delight at the biofil toilet system commissioned by Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, which is being piloted in her municipality. She was delighted about the high interest shown by residents as they register to purchase the facility.
Speaking on JoyNews sanitation crusade, ‘Clean Communities’ on MultiTV, she said the biofil toilet system is “portable and would fit into smaller spaces” describing it as the perfect toilet facility for households within her municipality.
La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly has been battling with water crisis for some time now, and was therefore excited the biofil toilet system does not need enough water to operate. “The water you use to wash your hands is all you need to flush the toilet.”
Rita Odoley Sowah said to attract residents to purchase the facility; arrangements have been made to accept payment in installments.
She is confident this arrangement will encourage landlords to equip their houses with toilets.
She also noted that the assembly will intensify its fight against open defecation as well as tackling other sanitation issues within the municipality.
