A facility expected to serve as a source of pleasure for residents in and around Dansoman has gradually developed in a death trap.
The playground which used to be called ‘Little London’ – when it used to be beautiful and colourful, has wounded several children who come from all around Dansoman to play.
A visit to the area by Joy News’ correspondent Naa Deede Tettey indicated that swings, tunnels, slides and merry-go-rounds at the playground have all deteriorated with some joined together with ropes and pieces of cloth.
Caretaker of the facility, Ismailia Hamidu, complained about the lack of maintenance of the 17 year-old playground.
“Everything has gone bad. Some of the metals have rusted due to lack of maintenance”.
According to him, some people have turned the playground into a wee smoking bay where they smoke wee every evening.
A clinic provided for the playground to cater for people who get hurt while using the facility has been turned into a house. An office, restaurant and a bookstore have all been left unattended.
Despite the poor state of the playground, children still go there to play even though most of them end up with cuts and various injuries. They say it is their only source of entertainment.
Several promises made by the assemblyman of the area to renovate the playground are yet to materialise.
