William Sakyi popularly known as Obinim Malley, 36, has allegedly been poisoned by meat-pie at a wedding reception at Dansoman, a suburb of Accra on Saturday.
The late Obinim Malley was a popular radio serial caller in the nation's capital and the Eastern region. Though an ardent New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, the late Sakyi was known for his contributions to sports programmes in Accra and the Eastern region.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at a hospital morgue in Dansoman-Accra.
Speaking to William Sakyi Senior, another radio serial caller and twin brother to the deceased at Suhum in the Eastern region, he explained that, on Saturday October 4 at around 3:40pm, he received a distress call from a family member that, the deceased who was delivering video coverage at a wedding ceremony had suddenly collapsed, was hospitalized and pronounced dead a few hours later.
He stated that the sad news came to him as a shock since he spoke with the deceased that fateful morning.
According to him, preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased was poisoned through a meat-pie served him at the wedding ceremony.
He narrated that, the deceased complained of sudden severe stomach pains while taking the video coverage at the wedding and subsequently collapsed with foam in the mouth and died shortly when rushed to the hospital by some of the wedding attendants.
He said the matter has been reported to the police to investigate circumstances leading to the death of the deceased while the family awaits final autopsy report by doctors.
