An unidentified man believed to be in his late twenties was on Tuesday morning found dead hanging in an uncompleted building at Gushegu in the Northern Region.
It is still not clear whether it was a murder or suicide, but Gushegu police believe the man committed suicide.
Speaking in an interview with Adom TV News, the Gushegu District Police Commander, ASP Stephen Paa Yeboah said the police received a call from residents of the area saying they have found the lifeless body of the man hanging by a rope tied to the ceiling of the uncompleted building.
He said there was table lying below the hanging body, which indicated that he stood on the table and hanged himself.
ASP Paa Yeboah said a school bag and porridge were also found lying in the room of the building in which he was hanging.
“He didn’t leave any note”, ASP Paa Yeboah stated.
The Gushegu District Police Commander added that one of the mobile phones found in his pocket wasn’t his, because “the one who answered one of our countless calls from his phone said the guy stole the phone from him, the receiver”.
“Fortunately, yesterday (Monday) was market day, we don’t know whether he came for market and we don’t know what made him commit suicide,” ASP Yeboah said.
No one has come to claim the body yet but police has deposited it at the Gushegu District Government Hospital morgue for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Police are therefore calling on anyone with a missing male family member to report to the nearest police station and help identify the deceased.
