Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo, has urged security agencies in the country to help deal with the widespread corruption in Ghana and worsening security in West Africa.

Mr. Woyongo said Tuesday it was time security agencies vigorously got involved in the campaign to eradicate corruption in the country.

Addressing a cross section of all security agencies under his Ministry in Takoradi, Mr Woyongo said revelations of massive corruption at the National Service Secretariat (NSS) show politicians are not the only culprits in corruption in Ghana.

The Ghana Police Service, The Immigration Service, The Prisons Service, Narcotics Control Board, Ghana National Fire Service are some of the agencies under the Interior Ministry.

"Every day on the radio there is talk of corruption here, corruption there. Most often the tendency is to point accusing fingers at the politician. But what is happening of late is not the politician"

The Interior Minister also called for extra vigilance to check worsening security situation in the West Africa sub region.

"We have cases of terrorist threats in our subregion. In Nigeria, Boko Haram. Mali and Libya are in turmoil and people are carrying guns all over the place and I am sure this will have a trickle-down effect in our subregion", he said. 

He said these situations make possibility of an influx of guns and amunition into Ghana, very spectacle.

"I would want to urge you, especially those of you who are in the frontline, to ensure that all vehicles are properly screened to ensure that no illegal weapons are brought into our country", he said.
