Current load shedding across the country appears to have worsened as some parts of Accra have been without power for three days.
Many areas in the capital have been plunged into darkness, raising concerns about security of local residents.
Some residents who spoke to Joy News said they have been unable to plan their schedules due to inconsistent nature of power supply.
According to them, they have been compelled to keep their appliances off until a time they are fully convinced the electicity will stay on, which hardly happens.
Corporate executives say they wear creased attire to work because their lights are always off and the only escape is to put on a jacket to cover up their unappealing look.
Business owners are forced to purchase generator sets in a bid to save their businesses.
Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG,) William Boateng in a response to the concerns raised, admitted that the timetable is not being adhered to due to a directive from GRIDCO.
“When we started we were following the load shedding timetable but GRIDCO directed that we [shed] more due to frequency challenges which sometimes compels them to shut down a whole substation in order to get the balance required and this causes the outages for prolonged periods”.
He however assured the general public that the problem will be rectified within the shortest possible time.
ECG in September this year, released a time table for its intensified load shedding exercise.
The load shedding followed the announcement of an over 500 megawatts deficit of power attributed to repair works on some power plants and cessation of gas supply from Nigeria.
