About 170 police personnel selected from the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service to undergo training in peacekeeping have all been deployed for United Nations (UN) Mission in South Sudan.
The selected police personnel were taken through public order management, tactical progression, weapon handling by some Italian trainers and United Nations Peacekeeping delegation from the Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Unit.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, who witnessed a demonstration by the personnel, expressed surprise at the readiness of the personnel for the United Nations deployment.
He said Ghana Police Service would continuously maintain a good name in their United Nations operations.
"The police administration appreciates the level of standard you have displayed and I will urge you to continue to work hard in order to remain on top."
He noted that after inspecting the uniforms, vehicles and other equipment, he realized that only a few equipment would have to be reexamined in terms of quality.
He urged personnel to put up good behaviour and maintain the image of the police service.
The Director-General in charge of police operations, COP John Kudalor stressed the need for personnel to remain committed since the service cannot afford to lower the standard set internationally.
The police boss urged them to properly maintain the equipment.
The first contingent is expected to leave the country by the end of this month.
