The Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Oti Boateng, has been re-elected, for a four year term, as a member of the UN expert body, the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) for a four-year term effective 1st January 2015.
The Fifth Committee of the United Nations, at its formal meeting in New York on Friday, 7th November 2014, re-elected Daasebre by consensus to the General Assembly for re-appointment to the Commission for the ensuing four-year term.
Daasebre’s candidature, which was supported by the Government of Ghana and the African Union, has been hailed as a historic landmark and proven authoritative stature of Daasebre as an international expert of no mean repute within the UN circle.
According to the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations, Daasebre’s continued membership of the Commission will go a long way to strengthen its mandate.
The ICSC was established by the General Assembly of the UN for the regulation and co-ordination of the conditions of service of the United Nations Common System.
Under its statute, the Commission consists of fifteen members appointed by the General Assembly “in their personal capacity as individuals of recognized competence who have had substantial experience of executive responsibility in public administration or related fields, particularly in personnel management”.
Daasebre Oti Boateng, a former Government Statistician of Ghana and former Chairman of both the UN Statistical Commission and the International Conference of Labour Statisticians, has been a member of the ICSC since 2003 and has made significant contributions to its mandate.
The Fifth Committee also elected by acclamation, Mr. Kingston Papie Rhodes of Sierra Leone, the current chairman of ICSC.
Daasebre is currently leading a global advocacy to pioneer a new economic model for adoption as a new Integrated Communal Development brand for Ghana, Africa and the developing world.
